Why is the flag red and white?
The old Bahraini flag was actually plain red. In 1820, Bahrain signed a treaty with the United Kingdom(UK), and received a white strip added to the flag to indicate the truce between them. The flag originally had twenty-eight white points, but was reduced to eight in 1972. On the 14th February 2002, the number was again reduced to five points so each of the points would stand for the 'Five Pillars of Islam'
